This video describes the differences between the different grades of chain (70, 80, 100, and 120) offered at US Cargo Control. It’s important to know the chain grades have different strength, with 120 being the highest strength rating.

With many chain options available, it’s important to know the differences between grades of chain. Every grade of chain has different uses and applications, but can generally be separated into three main categories: overhead lifting chain, transport chain, and other welded industrial chain types.

What are the differences among Grade 70, 80, 100, and 120?
Grade 70 transport chain is excellent for use as load securement and in tie down applications. Only grade 80 chain, grade 100 chain, and grade 120 chain are approved for overhead lifting.

Chain slings and lifting slings are ideal for applications when extra strength and durability is required. Not only are chain slings more durable, temperature-tolerant, and cut-resistant than nylon web slings or polyester round slings, they are also very versatile. We sell two main types of slings: standard and adjustable, both of which can be configured a number of ways to ensure they meet the needs of the lift.

You probably have seen gold-colored chain before, but did you know that it has a unique, limited application in the rigging and transportation industries?

The gold color provides basic weatherization properties to chain, but more importantly, it is an industry standard coating/color used to indicate Grade 70 chain.

Unlike most chain we carry at Bishop Lifting, Grade 70 chain is NOT rated for overhead lifting. It is used for tie down and securement in transport!

In this video, we introduce the basics of using Grade 70 chain, talk a little bit about its history in rigging and transportation, and walk you through the most common fittings.

Everything you need to know to get started with Grade 70 chain is outlined in brief right here. If you liked this video, please leave us a comment, like, or share it with a friend!
